Average Daily Error (Lower numbers correspond to greater accuracy) | |
The Chart at left shows the average daily
error of those weather services listed on our weather
page. The daily error is the absolute value of the error in predicting the daily
high temperature added to the absolute value of the error in predicting the daily low
temperature. The predicted values are sampled the evening before the day in
question. When a range of temperatures is given, the average is used. For example, if the prediction is "high temperatures will be 85-90," we use a predicted value of 87.5. The actual temperature is taken either from the Weather Underground page (which is the temperature at Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport) or from the Daily News Record (temperatures from the Dale Enterprise weather station). The beginning date for the current set of averages is July 22, 1999
